MATERIAL / ABS & ASA

ABS & ASA.
Built for heat.

ABS is the classic engineering plastic behind countless consumer products. ASA is its weather-proof cousin. Both handle far more heat than PLA or PETG, making them the go-to for car interiors, housings, and outdoor parts.

If the part will see sunlight, choose ASA. Indoors, either works; we’ll confirm which in your quote.

Designing for ABS/ASA

  • These materials shrink as they cool, so very large flat areas can warp. Ribs, fillets, and consistent wall thickness help.
  • Sharp internal corners concentrate stress — add a fillet.
  • Tell us about any mating parts so clearances are planned for.

Questions

Is ABS or ASA better for car parts?+

Both handle interior heat far better than PLA. For anything exposed to sunlight, such as dash-top or exterior parts, ASA is the better choice because it resists UV.

What temperature can ABS and ASA handle?+

Common grades begin to soften at around 95–100 °C. Real-world limits depend on load and geometry, so describe the environment in your request.
