What we check in a mesh file
- Scale. STL and OBJ files have no units, so a 25 mm part can open at 25 inches. We confirm the size with you before quoting.
- Watertightness. Holes, flipped faces, and overlapping shells break prints. We repair what we can and tell you about anything that needs a fix in your design.
- Thin walls and tiny features. We flag details too fine for the chosen process.
- Resolution. A coarse export shows facets on curved surfaces. If it matters, re-export with finer settings.
Which format to send
| Format | Good for | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 3MF | Exports from slicers and modern CAD | Keeps units, so it’s the best mesh choice |
| STL | Almost every tool and model site | No units; tell us the size |
| OBJ | Blender, scans, sculpting tools | No units; colours/textures are ignored |
| STEP | Engineered parts from CAD | Most accurate; preferred when you have it |
Downloaded models
Only send files you have the right to have printed. Many models on Thingiverse, Printables, and similar sites carry licences that limit commercial use; check the licence before ordering parts to sell.
Questions
Can you 3D print an STL file?+
Yes. Upload the STL on the quote form, tell us the intended size in millimetres, and we will review it and email a written quote.
What's the maximum file size?+
25 MB per request. If your file is larger, try 3MF (it is usually smaller) or email sales@nanoarc3d.com.
My STL has errors. Can you fix it?+
We repair common problems such as small holes and flipped faces during review. If the model needs real design changes, we will tell you before quoting.
Do you print OBJ files with colour?+
We print OBJ geometry. Colour and texture data are not used; tell us the colour you want in your request.
