MATERIAL / PETG

PETG.
The everyday workhorse.

PETG bridges easy printing and real-world toughness. It flexes before it breaks, shrugs off moisture and many chemicals, and handles more heat than PLA — which is why it’s our default suggestion for functional parts.

Why PETG works for functional parts

PETG is the same family of plastic used in many drink bottles, modified for printing. It is noticeably tougher than PLA, bonds well between layers, and tolerates moisture. For brackets, mounts, enclosures, and general-purpose parts, it’s a dependable first choice.

Good uses

  • Brackets, mounts, and holders
  • Indoor electronics enclosures
  • Clips and parts with light flexing
  • Jigs and fixtures
  • Parts exposed to water or humidity

Limits

  • Not for sustained high heat — choose ABS/ASA.
  • For heavy wear, sliding contact, or repeated snap-fits, nylon lasts longer.
  • Surfaces can be slightly glossy and show fine stringing; mention cosmetic requirements in your request.

Questions

Is PETG stronger than PLA?+

PETG is tougher and more impact resistant than PLA and handles more heat, though PLA can be stiffer. For functional parts, PETG is usually the better choice.

Is PETG waterproof?+

PETG resists water well. Whether a printed part is watertight also depends on wall thickness and print settings, so mention it in your requirements.
