MATERIAL / PLA

PLA.
Fast, clean, economical.

PLA is the most widely printed plastic: dimensionally stable, crisp in detail, and economical. It’s ideal for parts you look at or test-fit — and the wrong choice for anything that gets warm.

When PLA is the right choice

  • Concept models and visual prototypes
  • Fit checks against other parts
  • Display pieces, architectural and presentation models
  • Indoor fixtures and organisers that see light loads

When to choose something else

  • Heat: PLA can deform in a hot car or near warm electronics. Use PETG or ABS/ASA.
  • Impact and flexing: PLA tends to snap rather than bend. Use PETG or nylon.
  • Outdoors: Use ASA.

Questions

Is PLA strong?+

PLA is stiff and fairly strong in tension, but brittle under impact and weak at elevated temperatures. For functional parts, PETG, ABS/ASA, or nylon are usually better.

Can PLA parts be used outdoors?+

It isn't recommended. PLA softens in heat and degrades in UV and weather over time. ASA is the outdoor choice.
